  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Leon G. Higley -- Be Amazed by How Good this Book Is : How Magicians Think... is one of the most engaging magic books I've read this year. Fundamentally, it is a collections of essays, all well written and thoughtful, about magic topics, magicians, and philosophy. There is a certain amount of autobiography as well, which I welcomed. I can't imagine anyone interested in magic not finding something of value here. With books of essays, I often jump in and out of topics, but this was very much a "I can't stop reading" volume. I have long liked Joshua Jay (I briefly met him at a lecture many years ago) for his inventiveness and commitment to broadening magic's reach, but even so, after this book I thing I've underestimated his contributions. I can't wait for his next book. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Mark Thompson -- The magic behind the way magicians think plus a lot of history : Wonderful book! A fun read! You will NOT learn how tricks are done, but you WILL learn a lot about how magicians approach their craft. This is a series of short essays and takes you behind the scenes and explains how professional magicians live, plan, practice and deal with things like hecklers, drunks, children and other show disruptions. Plus a lot of history about great magicians including many names you will recognize. A very entertaining and fun read! Buy it! You will not be disappointed.
